Great sail, out into the GG channel with a strong ebb – a bit too strong on turning around to head back making only one knot towards Pt Bonita. So, reached off SE past Mile Rock to see if we could pick up a counter current through South Bay.
Followed a fishing boat between Mile Rock and the rocky shore - the guide books say not to do it, but there is quite a bit of water there when you only draw 14 inches. Got picked up by the back eddy and swept passed China Beach and Baker Beach just off the shore at 5+ knots. This route worked great even though there was a big westerly swell running - it seemed to lose all of its energy off Lands End.
Little Cat ran smack into the big ebb tide again at the Golden Gate bridge, and we had to sail across the current and catch the back eddy under the bridge at Lime Pt (on the North side of the bridge). Its nice to know you can get home even when the big ebb is running.
