An attempt to get across San Pablo Bay to China Camp (in the distance in first photo) was cut short when it became clear that it would mean getting back at midnight.
Getting this far included beating up the Carquinez Strait at up to 7.5 knots with the outgoing tide, and a pleasant close reach across SP bay, but China Camp was still another hour away and it was late in the afternoon. So plan B was to swing to port and head into Point Pinole Regional Shoreline Park.
The approach to Point Pinole is protected by the remains of a large wharf that used to serve a fireworks factory positioned at the Point a safe distance from the nearby town of Richmond. Its a pretty spot, and the anchor went down in 2 feet of water to contemplate the view with the obligatory cup of coffee.
After a relaxing stop it was time to head back. The forecast was for 5-10 knots from the west to drive us home - no such luck - not a breath of wind, so had to motor home - again. Still, who can complain about a beautiful sunset?
By the time "Little Cat" got back to the Carquinez Bridge it was getting dark providing great views of the Bridge and the C&H Sugar Factory.
